THOUGHT for YOUR WEEK:

The Principles of Gossip

By Catherine Pulsifer

Gossip is the greatest abuse of time and energy. Everyone adds on his or her own personal bias, interpretation, and bitterness.

We used to play a children's game where we all sat in a circle and one person would whisper a sentence to the next person. By the time it was repeated again to the first person, the sentence was completely different! Gossip is based on the same principle.

People who spend their time finding fault or gossiping about others, are certainly not the kind of people you want as friends.

Those who gossip to you may also gossip about you. If you can't say anything positive about someone, don't say anything.

Nothing productive is ever achieved as a result of spreading, or listening to gossip. Don't waste your time! You can make more productive use of it.

Inspirational Words of Wisdom

Note:  this week's newsletter is being sent early as we are taking a long overdue vacation!!
To quote Will Wright, "On vacation, I totally unplug. I don't bring a laptop with me."

They've cleared up all of their to-do piles, closed up transactions, renewed old promises with themselves.

My most basic suggestion is that people should do that more than just once a year."

THOUGHT for YOUR WEEK:

By Catherine Pulsifer

I get more done in the week before I go on vacation than I do in the previous month.

Why?

Because I am very focused. I know exactly what must be accomplished before I feel comfortable leaving for vacation.

Why can't we have this attitude everyday? The reason is that we know we will be there tomorrow, and we allow, "time wasters" to creep into our day and steal our time. We can be very busy but achieve few results.

We need to develop a "vacation attitude" every day by being focused on what we need to accomplish by the end of each day. By focusing on results, we are spending our time wisely. By developing this attitude, we dramatically improve our performance, our productivity and our value to others.

Eliminate time wasters by adopting a vacation attitude!

THOUGHT for YOUR WEEK:

Your Example

By Catherine Pulsifer

The personal example you set will do more to convince someone than all the eloquent speeches in the world. When you expect others to demonstrate a certain type of behaviour, ask yourself if your behaviour exemplifies what you expect of others.

As Oliver Goldsmith once said,

If you take a piece of string and push it, it will not go in the direction you want. But, if you take that same piece of string and pull it along, the string will move in the same direction. That principle applies to people. Don't push them along; pull them along by your own actions, your behaviour, your enthusiasm, and your determination. Reflect on the words of Albert Schweitzer,  "Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing."

What you do, and how you act,

has more influence on people than what you say!

THOUGHT for YOUR WEEK:
Great Minds
By Catherine Pulsifer

We all have great minds. What makes a difference is whether or not we use the full capability of our mind.

As Washington Irving once said,  "Great minds have purposes, others have wishes."

Those who have a "purpose" are active in setting goals and constantly working towards them.

Those who simply "wish", have no specific goals for themselves; they just go day to day allowing someone else to set their direction. Wishing for something occupies the mind but leaves the bank empty.

Use your "great mind", and set goals to achieve your purpose. Wishing is just as ineffective as worrying — neither accomplishes anything. Next time you find yourself wishing for something, remind yourself that wishing won't move you forward, but setting goals and taking action will!

POEM for YOUR WEEK:
YESTERDAY IS GONE
Poet: Grant Ngobean

Live for today, hope for tomorrow
And forgot about yesterday...forgot
'I CAN'T ' for those are the words of a coward
And remember 'I WILL TRY' for those
Are the words of a potential winner?

The only way you can regret yesterday is
When you've never learnt anything from it
And remember that what ever you worry about
It's in the past, there is nothing you can change or do about it,
Just accept to choose to see
Yesterday's problems as an opportunity to grow.

Worry is wasting today's time
Cluttering up tomorrow's opportunities
With yesterday's trouble.
How many times do we look back on?
An event and think, if only I had...
How many times do we do something that we wish hadn't done?
You can't change a past event,
Its yesterday, you can't change what has been done.

Do you call it regret, sorrow, repentance?
Do you think about what might have been?
Do you relieve an event the way it should have been?
Forget about regret and focus on today, not on yesterday.
Focus on what you can do, not what you didn't do.

The only thing to feel sorrow for
Is not living each day to the fullest,
The only thing to repent is to sincerely say I'm sorry!
Don't live your life regretting yesterday...
Live your life so tomorrow you won't regret today.
It doesn't matter what anyone thinks or say about you,
What really matters is what you think and say about your self...
Then what you do about it.

 Alexander Graham Bell

"Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness."
 George Sand

"Regret is an appalling waste of energy; you can't build on it; it is only good for wallowing in."
 Katherine Mansfield

"Never look back and regret, look back and smile at what you have learned."
 Michelle C. Ustaszeski

"Regret is an odd emotion because it comes only upon reflection. Regret lacks immediacy, and so its power seldom influences events when it could do some good."

POEM for YOUR WEEK:
The Park Bench
By Author Unknown

The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read
Beneath the long, straggly branches of an old willow tree.
Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown,
For the world was intent on dragging me down.
And if that weren't enough to ruin my day,
A young boy out of breath approached me, all tired from play.
He stood right before me with his head tilted down
And said with great excitement, "Look what I found!"

In his hand was a flower, and what a pitiful sight,
With its petals all worn - not enough rain, or too little light.
Wanting him to take his dead flower and go off to play,
I faked a smile and then shifted away.
But instead of retreating he sat next to my side
And placed the flower to his nose and declared with overacted surprise,
"It sure smells pretty and it's beautiful too.
That's why I picked it; here, it's for you."

The weed before me was dying or dead.
Not vibrant of colors: orange, yellow or red.
But I knew I must take it, or he might never leave.
So I reached for the flower, and replied, "Just what I need."
But instead of him placing the flower in my hand,
He held it mid-air without reason or plan.
It was then that I noticed for the first time
That weed-toting boy could not see he was blind.

I heard my voice quiver; tears shone in the sun
As I thanked him for picking the very best one.
"You're welcome," he smiled, and then ran off to play,
Unaware of the impact he'd had on my day.
I sat there and wondered how he managed to see
A self-pitying woman beneath an old willow tree.
How did he know of my self-indulged plight?
Perhaps from his heart, he'd been blessed with true sight.

Through the eyes of a blind child, at last I could see
The problem was not with the world; the problem was me.
And for all of those times I myself had been blind,
I vowed to see the beauty in life, and appreciate every second that's mine.
And then I held that wilted flower up to my nose
And breathed in the fragrance of a beautiful rose
And smiled as I watched that young boy, another weed in hand,
About to change the life of an unsuspecting old man.
