Several other welcome initiatives were taken on the front of drug regulation, like registration of cosmetics imported into the country was initiated from April 1, 2013 to ensure that imported products are not only of standard quality but also have been manufactured under Good Manufacturing Practices by genuine licensed manufacturers. No such registration was mandatory earlier. The Drugs and Cosmetics (Amendment) Bill, 2013 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha for upgrading and restructuring the Drugs Regulatory framework for ensuring the manufacture and sale of safe and efficacious drugs in the country. |
