Sleep Apnea Found to Cause Loss of Gray Matter & Cognitive Functioning

Those who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) have a new worry on their brains to deal with when drifting off. OSA has been found to cause gray matter to shrink, which can lead to cognitive problems with memory and attention. A side effect of OSA is the intermittent deprivation of oxygen that occurs during sleep, which appears to be the antecedent of the gray matter loss.
